Baljit Khakh Lab

Exploring Fundamental Astrocyte Biology

Bal Khakh’s lab explores fundamental astrocyte biology across biological scales. Their studies range from molecular studies to those directly relevant to human brain disorders. The lab’s research focuses on the physiological and molecular mechanisms of astrocytes, particularly in relation to their interactions with neurons and the implications for neurological and psychiatric disorders. This site introduces the lab’s research projects, publications, team members, and available resources, highlighting the lab’s commitment to fundamental biology and applied research.

Schematic of the range of research at different biological scales in Baljit Khakh’s lab to explore fundamental astrocyte biology
The Khakh lab explores astrocytes at multiple scales, ranging from their molecular properties, synaptic proximity, subcellular calcium imaging, molecular basis of their morphology, local, regional and context-specific variations, contributions to natural behaviors, and their alterations in disease models in order to identify new strategies for human disease.
